Junior Ranger programming Starts this Month! Come in to the office at Herrington Manor to find out all about the Junior Ranger program, and sign-up as soon as possible.


Activities

Story and Craft

Meet at the Swallow Falls Canyon Trail Entrance to read a children’s book and make a nature craft. Cost is $2.00 per person for materials.

Under the rocks

Join the naturalist at the Swallow Falls Canyon Trail Entrance for a salamander hike. Learn more about a salamander habitat and the names of commonly found salamander in the park. Appropriate footwear is recommended.

Shell-n-tell

Meet at the Swallow Falls Canyon Trail Entrance to meet the turtles from our nature center. Learn more about a turtle’s habitat and turtles common to the park. In case of rain, meet at the Herrington Manor nature center.

Birds and Worms

Meet the naturalist at the field across from the Swallow Falls Canyon Trail Entrance to learn the importance of camouflage in nature.

Fact or Fiction

Tickle your funny bone or peak your curiosity? How good are you at foiling fact from fiction? Come join us at the Swallow Falls amphitheatre for a fun group activity involving facts about animals that will leave you scratching your head!

Butterfly Chasers

Meet at the Swallow Falls Canyon Trail Entrance for a hike to look for dragonflies and butterflies. Use nets to catch and identify the different dragonflies and butterflies living near the lake.

Scavenger Hunt

Stop by the Swallow Falls office to pick up your scavenger sheet. Browse between Herrington Manor and Swallow Falls to complete the sheet. Return your completed sheet to Herrington Manor office to receive a prize.

Park to Park Hike

Meet the Naturalist at the swallow Falls Park Office for a guided hike of the beautiful 5 mile trail that runs from Swallow Falls to Herrington Manor.

Musk-ox Maneuvers:

Join the naturalist at the Swallow Falls amphitheatre to play a fun wildlife game! Learn about Muskoxen and how they protect their tiny young.

Predator Prey:

Join the naturalist at the Swallow Falls amphitheatre to play! Learn about the importance of predator-prey relationships in nature, and get some good, healthy exercise!

Join us at the Herrington Manor nature center for a chance to learn about the different night sounds of Garrett County. Take this opportunity to see several live critters and go on a hike to call in barred owls.
