The Western Garrett County State Park Volunteer, Inc. is excited to be spearheading an innovative project at the Discovery Center. Imagine being able to explore the world of the treetops. The Western Garrett County State Park Volunteers, Inc. (WGCSPV) in partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Park Service and Forest Service are excited about plans to offer a forest canopy walkway to visitors at the Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake State Park, located in Garrett County Maryland.
Canopy walkways allow access to the upper parts of the forest--the canopy--which is where most of the action is. From the walkway, birds, butterflies, flowers, and various other species of animals, plants, and insects that live in the roof of the forest, and which are otherwise invisible, can be seen up close.
To those that have supported this project to date, the volunteer orgnaization is involved in discussions with MD Park Service laedership on the final design of this project. WGCSPV Inc. would like to thank funders to date that have supported the production of architectural and engineering plan sets to support the development of this project.
New cost estimates available as soon as possible after the alternate design is approved. Please check back for updated information.
